Secretary of War Pete Hegseth announced on May 5, 2026, that the President has put forth several nominations for general officer positions within the U.S. Air Force. These significant appointments are set to fill key leadership roles across various commands and institutions.

Air Mobility Command and Air Force Academy Leadership

Lieutenant General Daniel H. Tulley has been nominated to serve as the commander of Air Mobility Command at Scott Air Force Base, Illinois. Currently, Lt. Gen. Tulley commands and presides over Air University at Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama. In a separate key nomination, Major General Paul D. Moga has been put forward for the role of superintendent of the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Maj. Gen. Moga currently serves as the commander of the Third Air Force, U.S. Air Forces in Europe, located at Ramstein Air Base, Germany.

Assignments in South Korea and Promotions

Major General David G. Shoemaker is slated for multiple high-level assignments in South Korea. These include deputy commander of U.S. Forces Korea; commander of the Combined Air Component Command, United Nations Command; commander of the Combined Air Component Command, Combined Forces Command; and commander of the Seventh Air Force, Pacific Air Forces, at Osan Air Base, South Korea. Maj. Gen. Shoemaker is currently the deputy commander of Ninth Air Force (Air Forces Central) and deputy commander of Combined Forces Air Component Command, U.S. Central Command, Air Combat Command, at Al Udeid Air Base, Qatar.

Furthermore, Brigadier General Robert K. Bogart has been nominated for appointment to the grade of major general. Brig. Gen. Bogart currently serves as the director of Defense Health Network Central and commander of Air Force Medical Readiness Command-Alpha at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, Texas. Similarly, Brigadier General Leigh A. Swanson has also been nominated for appointment to the grade of major general. Brig. Gen. Swanson currently holds the position of surgeon general, Headquarters Air Mobility Command, at Scott Air Force Base, Illinois.
