Mahindra Thar Price Hike 2026: Owning the popular lifestyle SUV is set to become a bit more expensive, as Mahindra has announced a price hike across select variants of the model. As per the revised pricing, certain variants of the Thar have seen an increase of up to ₹43,500.

The price revision is likely to impact buyers who were planning to opt for higher-end trims, making the overall purchase cost slightly heavier. However, there is some relief for budget-conscious customers, as the company has decided to keep the price of the entry-level variant unchanged.

The Mahindra Thar, known for its rugged design and off-road capabilities, continues to enjoy strong demand in the Indian market. Despite the hike, it is expected to remain a preferred choice among SUV enthusiasts.

  • This time the prices have been increased according to different variants.

  • Both the LXT 2WD 1.5 diesel manual and LXT 4WD 2.0 petrol manual have received the same hike of ₹ 30,500.

Entry-level variant price remains unchanged

  • While the other variants have become costlier, the price of the AXT 2WD 1.5 diesel manual variant has been retained at ₹9.99 lakh (ex-showroom).
  • This is good news for those customers who want to buy this SUV in a low budget.
  • The company had already indicated that the prices of vehicles could increase by about 2.5%.
  • This is why this increase is not completely unexpected.
  • Earlier in January also, the price of this SUV was increased by about ₹ 20,000.

Engine and performance

  • Mahindra Thar is known for its sturdy build and off-roading capabilities.
  • Many engine options are provided in it, so that customers can choose as per their needs.
  • The SUV is available with a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine along with 1.5-litre and 2.2-litre diesel engine options.
  • Moreover, it is available in both manual and automatic transmission.

Drive train and off-roading capability

  • The biggest feature of this vehicle is its drive train system.
  • It is available in both RWD (rear wheel drive) and 4×4 (four-wheel drive) options.
  • The 4×4 system allows this SUV to perform well on rough terrain, hilly terrain and off-road tracks.

New Facelift model may arrive soon

An updated or facelifted version of the Mahindra Thar is likely to be introduced in the near future. Recent spy shots and testing sightings suggest that the SUV could receive subtle yet noticeable design updates. The upcoming model is expected to feature revised headlights and a refreshed front grille, giving it a more contemporary and refined appearance while retaining its signature rugged appeal.

Despite these cosmetic enhancements, the overall silhouette and core design language of the Thar are expected to remain largely unchanged, preserving the iconic look that has made it so popular among enthusiasts.

In addition to exterior tweaks, the facelifted version may also come with a few technical and feature upgrades, potentially improving comfort, connectivity, and driving experience. However, under the hood, major changes are unlikely. The existing engine options are expected to continue, ensuring that the Thar maintains its proven performance and off-road capabilities.
