Access ChatGPT for Free on WhatsApp with a Simple Call
Accessing ChatGPT has never been easier. On Thursday, OpenAI made a major announcement for its users. The users can now talk to ChatGPT even on flip phones and fixed landline phones by dialing 1-800-CHATGPT (1-800-242-8478) for up to 15 minutes per month.
Using ChatGPT on a phone line doesn't require an extra subscription or even an account. Users can ask personal questions, and ChatGPT can also assist in learning new phrases in various languages, offering a seamless voice-based interaction.
This move aims to make the AI chatbot more accessible to people without needing a dedicated account or app. Interestingly, Meta already has Meta AI on WhatsApp.
However, for the chatbot in India, although adding ChatGPT via phone number wasn’t successful, it worked seamlessly using the QR code provided on OpenAI’s support page. However, ChatGPT won’t initiate conversations; users need to start the interaction.
How will it work?
The service allows users up to 15 minutes of free phone call usage per month and enforces a daily limit on WhatsApp messages. OpenAI has indicated that these limits may be adjusted depending on system capacity.
Users will receive notifications as they near their monthly or daily limits and will be informed once the limit has been reached. "We notify users as they approach the limit and confirm when the limit has been exceeded," OpenAI stated.
Is it restricted to only supporting text messages?
On WhatsApp, the AI currently supports only text-based conversations. Features like logging into a ChatGPT account, performing searches, sharing images, and utilizing personalized settings such as memory or custom instructions are not available at this time. Additionally, ChatGPT cannot be added to group chats and is limited to one-on-one interactions.
ChatGPT on WhatsApp has a knowledge base limited to updates until October 2023, which restricts its ability to address events or developments beyond that point.
Despite these limitations, the new service enhances accessibility, reaches a broader audience, and importantly, provides WhatsApp users with an alternative to Meta AI.
