Two NASA astronauts have been stranded in space for half a year

NASA astronauts Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore have been in space for the past six months due to a malfunction in the Boeing Starliner spacecraft, extending their stay beyond the planned schedule. Initially, their mission was set for eight days in June, but it has now been prolonged until January 2025. Because of the malfunction, they cannot return with the Starliner, and a new spacecraft will be dispatched for them. The SpaceX Dragon is expected to arrive in February 2025, requiring the astronauts to remain in space until then.

Here are ways to maintain mental health

Because of her extended space mission, those who know Sunita Williams are worried about how she is taking care of her health 254 miles above Earth. Williams has taken a lot of training from NASA, in the training, she has been taught a variety of exercises and therapies that keep her mentally fit even in the space environment. Also, through NASA's communication, she keeps talking to her family members, which keeps her motivated. In between, they also get a chance to talk to the psychologist if needed.

Maintaining physical well-being in this manner

The extended stay in space has impacted the health of both astronauts. Initially, their menu included pizza, roasted chicken, prawn cocktails, and some fresh items, but now they primarily rely on cereals and powdered milk. The ISS converts their urine and sweat into drinkable water. A team of doctors at the ground station monitors their health and offers mental and emotional support.
