Paytm Enables UPI Payments Abroad for Indian Travellers
UPI Payments Now Possible Outside India
One97 Communications Limited, a company owned by popular digital payments platform Paytm, recently announced that users can now make UPI payments at select locations outside India.
Paytm says that Indian travellers going to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Singapore, France, Mauritius, Bhutan and Nepal will now be able to pay for shopping, food and local experiences using the app.
The functionality disabled by default requires users to perform "one-time activation" to link to the user's bank account.
Encourage User to Enable the Feature
If you have forgotten to set up international UPI payments, the app will automatically prompt the user to activate the feature.
If you want to enable the feature manually, tap on the search bar at the top, search for 'International UPI' and click on the result under the Services tab.
On the screen that appears, Paytm will ask you to connect your UPI ID to make payments outside India. The company says that depending on the duration of the visit, Paytm users will be able to choose a usage period ranging from one to 90 days, after which the service will be disabled for security purposes.
Disabling Automatically can Prevent Accidental Transactions
Automatically disabling this feature after a certain amount of time not only prevents accidental transactions but also prevents fraudsters from swindling users' money.
Recently, Paytm has introduced a new feature that lets users download UPI statements to access detailed transaction records, allowing users to keep track of their spending and manage budgets.
Earlier this year, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) ordered Paytm's banking arm to stop accepting fresh deposits, citing non-compliance.
