YouTube Experiments with AI to Create Custom Music Remixes for Shorts
YouTube is exploring the future of music remixing with an AI-powered feature called "Dream Track." Currently, in limited testing, this tool lets creators "restyle" licensed songs for Shorts by customizing elements like mood, style, and tempo. By entering a prompt, the AI generates a unique 30-second remix that can be used in Shorts, according to The Verge.
Feature Testing:
The feature is currently being tested by a small group of creators with access to people invited to participate in the experiment. To use 'dream track', creators can select a worthy song, describe how they want it to be changed, and then let the AI reconstruct the remastered track. The remixed soundtrack will be explicitly attributed to the original song and will also include notes that the track was altered using AI. YouTube has emphasized that the 'Dream Track' experiment will only include music from artists who have consented to their voices being used by the AI.
Some of the participating artists include Charlie Puth, Charlie XCX, Demi Lovato, and John Legend. However, at this stage, it's unclear which specific songs are available for remixes and which music labels YouTube is working with to facilitate this project. The new feature is part of YouTube's broader effort to bring more creative tools to its platform, especially for creators who create shorts — a format that has seen tremendous growth in recent years, according to The Verge.
By leveraging AI, YouTube aims to provide more flexibility in how users engage with music, enabling them to create personalized soundtracks that align with their creative vision. The June report obtained by The Verge also reported that YouTube is in talks with major music labels to obtain permission to use their songs for AI training purposes.
Dream Track AI-Help
The move could potentially pave the way for a massive rollout of AI-powered music optimization tools, which will further revolutionize the way users interact with music on the platform. While still in the experimental phase, 'Dream Track' offers a glimpse into the future of AI-assisted music creation, where creators can seamlessly blend original works with innovative new twists, giving birth to an entirely new genre of user-generated content.
