Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd in its new Q2 FY25 earnings call has claimed that its 5G network can reduce power consumption, resulting in the battery life of smartphones increasing by up to 40 percent due to the benefits of its standalone (SA) 5G network. According to the details mentioned on Aye Call, Kiran Thomas, Chairman, Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited, said that due to spectrum bandwidth assignment as per application requirements, Jio 5G network users can expect an improvement in the battery life of smartphones by 20 to 40 percent.
How to Increase Smartphone Battery life ?
To put it simply, the Jio 5G network, depending on what the user is doing, will automatically switch between different frequency ranges allocated to the network to provide the best possible data speed, latency and coverage. This constant network optimization ensures that the smartphone always rests on the proper bandwidth as needed. If a user is just browsing the web or social media apps, the Jio 5G network will connect to a lower band, possibly below 1GHz, and when faster and higher data throughput is required, it will switch to mid-band (1GHz to 6GHz) or high-end (20-40GHz), which will consume more power.
Jio 5G Network Operates in three Bands
This dynamic allocation of the 5G network by Jio ensures that the phone always gets the best wireless networking experience without affecting battery life. If a network is connected to the mid-band even during casual web browsing or gaming, it can consume a little more power without any major benefits. Currently, the Jio 5G network operates in three bands – N28, N78 and N258, where N28 is a low band that operates at a frequency of around 700 MHz, while N78 and N258 are the middle and high bands, which operate at 3.3-3.8 GHz and 24.25-27.5 GHz respectively.
