Tejinder was already lodged in Ferozepur Central Jail in a murder case.
Tejinder was arrested on June 13 on a production warrant. During interrogation, he confessed that he had instructed his associates Sukhchain Singh alias Sukhi, Rahul alias Kaddu, Vipal Kumar alias Bittu and Dev Karan to carry out the attack from jail. On June 14, Sukhchain and Rahul were arrested. On June 16, Vipal and Dev Karan were apprehended and a .32 bore pistol, seven live cartridges, two magazines and a .315 bore country-made pistol were recovered from their possession.
After interrogation on June 18, five more weapons, three 30 bore pistols, two .32 bore pistols, eight magazines and three live cartridges were recovered. The accused told police that they used to purchase illegal weapons from Madhya Pradesh and sell them at high prices.
SSP Varun Sharma said that Tejinder Singh alias Fauji was pressurizing the family of the deceased to agree in the murder case. Dalwinder Singh, a friend of the deceased Jijin, was opposing this agreement. For this reason, Tejinder got the attack done from jail. SSP Varun Sharma said that Tejinder and Rahul had earlier been together in jail and from there they came in contact with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. Their purpose was to carry out incidents of target killings in Punjab including Patiala. Had the weapons not been recovered, the gang could have disturbed peace in the state.
