Reports indicate that a sudden surge occurred at Gate No. 7, the stadium's main entrance, following a rumor about free ticket distribution. This rumor led to the tragic death of 11 individuals.

A rumor quickly led to chaos near the main entrance, as people hurriedly scrambled over one another to grab free tickets. The cricket stadium features 21 stands and 13 gates. Gates 9 and 10 were designated for state cricket association members, whereas gates 5, 6, 7, 19, and 20, opened for the team's primary entry, attracted the largest crowd. The highest number of casualties happened at Gate No. 7.

Orders judicial inquiry

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar said a crowd broke the gates, leading to a stampede-like situation near the Chinnaswamy stadium. "The gates were broken by a mob of people. I think there was a massive stampede. I have spoken to the police commissioner and officials. We are keeping an eye on this accident and appeal to everyone to remain calm. "

State Chief Minister Siddaramaiah reported that a stampede near Chinnaswamy Stadium resulted in 11 fatalities and 33 injuries. The crowd size exceeded expectations, with over 200,000 to 300,000 attendees, despite the stadium's capacity being limited to 35,000. He has called for a judicial investigation into the event and declared a compensation of Rs 10 lakh for the families of those who lost their lives.
