Uttar Pradesh News: The Uttar Pradesh administration has made a significant decision concerning former Agniveers, granting them a 20 percent reservation in police and provincial armed forces (PAC) recruitment. This announcement was made by the state's Finance Minister, Suresh Khanna.
Media reports indicate that a cabinet meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, took place at 11 am today at Lok Bhawan in Lucknow. Agnipath scheme started in 2022
In 2022, the central government introduced the 'Agnipath scheme,' which involves recruiting young individuals into the Army, Navy, and Air Force on a contractual basis for four years.
The four-year program also encompasses six months of specialized training. Upon concluding the service term, young individuals are evaluated based on their performance.
25% Agniveers to get permanent appointment
Approximately 25% of Agniveers finishing their four-year term under the Agnipath scheme will receive permanent positions in the Army. It is projected that the service period for roughly 100,000 Agniveers from the initial batch will conclude by 2026-27, with about 25,000 possibly securing permanent roles.
Sources indicate that there are numerous vacant soldier positions in the Army, Navy, and Air Force. Agniveers could be appointed permanently to address these vacancies, and if necessary, over 25% of the Agniveers may be regularized.
