PM Modi's Sikkim visit cancelled due to severe weather
Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Sikkim has been canceled due to bad weather. He will virtually attend the event to mark the 50th anniversary of Sikkim's statehood. PM Modi will address the people of Sikkim through video conference from West Bengal and lay the foundation stone of several development projects.
Due to adverse weather conditions, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will journey to Gangtok on Thursday for Sikkim's 50th statehood anniversary celebrations, according to officials. Originally scheduled to arrive at 11 am, PM Modi was set to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for several key development projects aimed at enhancing infrastructure, connectivity, and overall progress in Sikkim. Instead, he will address the people of Sikkim through a video conference from Bagdogra in West Bengal.
Key projects consist of a new 500-bed district hospital in Namchi costing over Rs 750 crore, a passenger ropeway in Sangacholi, Pelling in Gyalshing district, and the unveiling of a statue of Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee at Atal Amrit Udyan in Gangtok district. Moreover, he will issue a commemorative coin, souvenir coin, and postage stamp to mark the Golden Jubilee.
The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) announced that the prime minister will travel to West Bengal, Bihar, and Uttar Pradesh on May 29 and 30 to inaugurate and initiate development projects valued at over Rs 70,000 crore. PM Modi's visit to these states will include the inauguration and foundation laying of various development projects totaling more than Rs 70,000 crore.
In a social media announcement regarding his Wednesday visit, PM Modi stated, "During the next two days, I will participate in events in Sikkim, West Bengal, Bihar, and Uttar Pradesh. The development initiatives that commence in this period will offer countless advantages to the citizens and reinforce our commitment to constructing a prosperous India."
The Prime Minister is set to inaugurate the City Gas Distribution (CGD) project for Alipurduar and Behar districts on Thursday. This project, valued at Rs 1,010 crore, aims to provide piped natural gas (PNG) to over 250,000 homes and more than 100 commercial and industrial units, along with establishing approximately 19 CNG stations.
