CM Dhami celebrates approval of Uttarakhand Hydropower initiative
Centre approves hydroelectric project on Gauriganga river in Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami described it as a historic step for the development of the state. The project will support local employment and infrastructure, which will help stop migration.
On Monday, the Forest Advisory Committee sanctioned the Sirkari Bhyol Rupsiyabagh hydroelectric project located on the Gauriganga river in Uttarakhand's Pithoragarh district. Officials reported that during a meeting at Indira Paryavaran Bhawan in New Delhi, the proposal to allocate 29.997 hectares of forest land for this project received approval.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami endorsed Uttarakhand Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited's project as a significant accomplishment for the state. The project is crafted with environmental sensitivity in mind, featuring a tunnel approximately a kilometer long and aiming to place most of the infrastructure underground, thereby minimizing its impact on forest land.
Authorities stated that the project site is not located within any national park, wildlife sanctuary, or eco-sensitive area, and it will not cause any displacement of residents.
The project is anticipated to be crucial in fulfilling Uttarakhand's electricity needs and advancing the state's aim for energy self-sufficiency. Additionally, the project is projected to enhance local employment opportunities, both permanent and temporary, and aid in infrastructure development, thereby helping to curb migration from the area.
Thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi for approving the project, CM Dhami stated that it marks a significant milestone in the development of Uttarakhand's border region. He noted that under PM Modi's guidance and support, the state has seen remarkable achievements in energy and employment sectors.
The state government is wholeheartedly dedicated to public welfare. This project is set to lay the groundwork for a prosperous future for Uttarakhand. Previously, CM Dhami had requested the central government's approval for the project in his discussions with Prime Minister Modi and Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Bhupender Yadav.
