The Allahabad High Court is set to deliver its judgment on a civil revision petition submitted by the mosque committee concerning the Jama Masjid-Harihar temple dispute in Sambhal on Monday, May 19, at 2 pm. The mosque committee has contested the case's validity in the High Court. Monday holds significant importance for the Jama Masjid Committee based in Sambhal.
Justice Rohit Ranjan Agarwal, presiding over a single bench, will announce the decision on the civil revision petition lodged by the Jama Masjid's managing committee. The Shahi Jama Masjid Committee from Ahmed Marg Kot in Sambhal has disputed the civil court's order dated November 19, 2024, in the Allahabad High Court.
There have been 15 hearings so far.
In the case concerning Sambhal Jama Masjid, the Sambhal Civil Court mandated a survey of the mosque on November 19, 2024. The mosque committee's petition was initially heard by the Allahabad High Court on January 8, 2025, leading to an interim order that halted the civil court's survey directive.
To date, approximately 15 hearings have occurred in this matter, culminating in the Allahabad High Court reserving its judgment after hearing all parties on May 13. The court is set to deliver its verdict on Monday, May 19.
Petition against Sambhal court
Previously, on May 5, the lawyer representing the ASI submitted his counter affidavit, prompting the court to allow the mosque committee's counsel time to respond and set May 13 as the subsequent hearing date. Meanwhile, the mosque committee filed a revision petition in the Allahabad High Court, contesting the Sambhal local court's order.
Survey conducted on November 24
The revision petition highlighted that it was submitted on November 19 of the previous year, and within a few hours, the judge instructed the Advocates Commission to carry out an initial survey of the mosque. The survey was completed on the same day, November 24, 2024.
The court has ordered that the survey report be submitted by November 29, 2024. Advocate Harishankar Jain, along with seven others, has filed a lawsuit in the Civil Judge (Senior Division) court of Sambhal, arguing that the purported Shahi Idgah mosque was constructed by demolishing a temple.
