Haryana plans major bureaucratic reshuffle post PM Modi's visit

Chief Secretary contenders emerge as Haryana plans reshuffle

Summary

Haryana is gearing up for a mega administrative reshuffle with a list of transfers of several senior IAS and IPS officers. These changes are likely to come after Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Haryana on April 14. After the retirement of current Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi, Dr. Sumita Mishra and Sudhir Rajpal may be contenders for this post.

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Saini is displeased with the state bureaucracy's performance. A significant administrative reshuffle might take place in the state following Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Haryana on April 14. The government has compiled a transfer list for several senior IAS and IPS officers.

Dr. Sumita Mishra and Sudhir Rajpal are leading candidates for the position following Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi's retirement in June. Post the Prime Minister's visit, modifications are being contemplated at the Chief Minister's Secretariat and district level. The state government has tasked several senior IAS and IPS officers with supervising the events scheduled in Hisar and Yamunanagar on April 14.

If the state's bureaucracy had been altered before PM Modi's visit, these preparations might have been impacted. Hence, a major reshuffle could occur following the PM's visit. Sources indicate that Dr. Sumita Mishra is a strong candidate for the position of Chief Secretary, replacing Anurag Rastogi, the current revenue secretary and finance commissioner of the state. Sumita Mishra is set to retire on January 31, 2027.

Prior to him, Sudhir Rajpal, the Additional Chief Secretary of the Health Department, is set to retire on November 30, 2026. Sudhir Rajpal is also a notable candidate for the Chief Secretary position. Both Sudhir Rajpal and Sumita Mishra belong to the 1990 IAS batch. Following the Prime Minister's visit, there are discussions about potential changes in Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini's secretariat.

A senior official in the Chief Minister's Office is reportedly interested in taking on more significant responsibilities in another major state and at the Centre. Once they secure an appropriate position, they can extend their services beyond Haryana. Senior IAS officers Anand Mohan Sharan are set to retire on August 31, Dr. Ashok Khemka on April 30, RC Bidan on December 31, and Sujan Singh on October 31 this year.
