Uttarakhand introduces simplified will process in UCC

The Uttarakhand government has established a streamlined framework for the creation and revocation of wills and supplementary documents  under the will, succession in the Uttarakhand Uniform Civil Code Act. The UCC aims to simplify the process for citizens across the state, with special provisions made for armed forces personnel. The Act discusses in detail various aspects relating to Will.

UCC attaches special importance to wills
Given the state's tradition of making outstanding contributions to the armed forces, the Act gives special importance to the privileged bequest. According to it, soldiers, airmen or marines on active service or deployment can prepare a will under simple and flexible rules. It must have been handwritten, orally or presented verbatim to witnesses. The aim of this streamlined process is to ensure that even those deployed in difficult and high-risk situations can effectively register their property wills.

The facility will be available through the online portal
As part of the state government's commitment to provide a convenient and citizen-friendly legal process to the general public, these services will soon be provided through an online portal as well. This will make the application process faster, more streamlined, and paperwork-free, as well as a robust digital record available. Making a Will is not mandatory for anyone, it is a personal decision. But, for those who want to set clear guidelines for their property, the Act provides a safe and simple system.
