Complete Ban on Firecrackers in Delhi Throughout 2025
The Delhi government has issued an order banning the use of firecrackers in the city for a year. The Delhi government has issued an order that prohibits the sale, storage, and use of firecrackers year-round in Delhi.

The Delhi government, under Section 5 of the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986, has announced a permanent ban on the production, storage, sale, and use of all types of firecrackers within the National Capital Territory of Delhi.
Delhi faces severe air pollution, particularly during the winter months, with pollutant levels, such as PM2.5 and PM10, significantly exceeding the prescribed air quality standards. The entire Union Territory of Delhi has been designated as an Air Pollution Control Zone under sub-clause (1) of Section 19 of the Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981.
Given the circumstances, the burning of firecrackers exacerbates air pollution during the festive season, it stated. The Delhi government has enforced a total ban on the sale and use of all kinds of fireworks in the NCT region of Delhi since 2020 under the Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981.
In light of past experiences with declining air quality from October to January, the directives have been expanded to enforce a total ban on the production, storage, sale (including online distribution), and use of all types of firecrackers in the National Capital Territory of Delhi in the coming years.
Starting January 1, 2025, the production, storage, sale, and use of all types of firecrackers will be completely prohibited in the Delhi region.
