Cold Wave Forces Delhiites to Take Refuge in Night Shelters
Numerous individuals in Delhi sought refuge in shelter homes as temperatures dropped sharply due to cold wave conditions in the city. Images from areas like Jama Masjid and AIIMS Delhi depicted people bundled up in heavy blankets, attempting to rest amidst the chilly weather.
Ved Pal, an employee at the shelter home near AIIMS Delhi, shared that more than 40 individuals utilized the shelter on Saturday night. He said, "This is a family shelter home where we provide proper bedding and as many blankets as needed. They also receive two meals a day along with tea and rusks in the morning."
Talking about the medical facilities available, he said that a doctor visits them if anyone has a health problem, or they are taken to the nearby AIIMS hospital if needed.
"We have a first aid box here, and when the doctor visits we give the medicine through their orders, otherwise we try to also help them get to the hospital. We keep the general medicine like paracetamol," he said.
Roshan Kumar, who was at the shelter home near Jama Masjid, praised the Delhi government for providing all necessary facilities to the people at the shelter home. He said, "There are about four shelter homes here (near Jama Masjid), some have a capacity of 30 people, others have a capacity of 100 people.
In the meantime, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for 'cold wave to severe cold wave' conditions in various regions of northern India, such as Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh.

He also mentioned that the cold wave will persist for one to two days in north and central India. On December 14, the IMD recorded a minimum temperature of 8 degrees Celsius, and today's minimum temperature is expected to be 7 degrees.
