Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma initiated the Jorhat town water supply project and unveiled a range of transformative initiatives to promote development and advancement in Jorhat district.

Chief Minister Sarma addressed the 'persistent problem affecting the residents of Jorhat' and intends to supply them with clean drinking water.

According to a statement from the Chief Minister's Office, the Drink from Tap (DFT) project will require a financial investment of Rs. 220 crore to provide clean and continuous 24/7 water supply through the use of advanced technology and modern infrastructure.

These initiatives span sectors, reflecting Assam's commitment to development and citizens' well-being.

Chief Minister Sarma initiated the formal distribution of no-dues certificates amounting to Rs 223.30 crore under the Assam Microfinance Incentive and Relief Scheme for Category-III, Phase II borrowers.

The Chief Minister also distributed Rs 35.337 crore to 6,86,487 families, according to the statement from the Chief Minister's Office.

The Chief Minister also handed out seed capital as part of the Pradhan Mantri Formalization of Micro Food Processing Enterprises Scheme, aiding 6,490 SHG members with a total of Rs. 21.90 crore. Furthermore, he announced that the Education Department has introduced three major schemes under the '12 Days of Development' initiative to significantly benefit students.

"As part of the Anundoram Borooah Award, students achieving 75 per cent marks or more in HSLC exams would be given cash prizes through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), amounting to approximately Rs. 12,500 each. More than 3 lakh students enrolled in Class 9 would receive bicycles under the Chief Minister's Special Scheme," CM said.

He also noted that numerous departments, including Revenue and Disaster Management, Finance, and Industries and Commerce and Public Enterprises, are preparing to introduce various initiatives that will soon benefit millions of residents across the state.

Discussing the government's microfinance relief program designed to support women, the Chief Minister mentioned that the administration has provided No-Due Certificates, allowing them to secure loans from banks.


He also disclosed that the government intends to provide extra financial aid, amounting to Rs 15,000 in 2026, and assured that additional measures would be taken to assist these women in obtaining larger loans from financial institutions.

The 'Lakhpati Baideo' scheme is currently under review and is anticipated to be implemented upon approval by local MLAs. This initiative aims to offer Rs 10,000 to female members of Self-Help Groups (SHGs) via banks, as noted by the Chief Minister in the statement.
