Assam Enforces NRC-Based Aadhaar Enrolment Rule
Assam Cabinet Implements New Rule
Assam cabinet on Wednesday implemented a new rule, approving a stricter standard operating procedure for Aadhaar enrolment verification in the state. If you want to enroll for an Aadhaar card, you will need to submit the NRC application receipt number. If you do not have the NRC application receipt number, your Aadhaar card application will be rejected.
CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said, "From today, only applying for an Aadhaar card will not mean getting an Aadhaar card. As a result of this SOP, we will be able to create an environment that will prevent suspicious citizens from acquiring this UID. "
Who got Exempted from this Rule ?
All those citizens of Assam, central government employees and have settled in other states due to their work are exempted from this rule. Himanta Biswa Sarma had announced in September that a more stringent verification process would be implemented for Aadhaar enrolment, as it was found during scrutiny that in districts where the Muslim population was high, the number of Aadhaar card holders was more than the total population of the districts.
Aadhaar Card Data of Many Districts
Official data shows that 103.74% of the population in Barpeta, 103.48% in Dhubri, 101.76% in Morigaon and nearly 100.86% in Nagaon have Aadhaar cards. All these figures have raised concerns that suspected foreign nationals have succeeded in getting Aadhaar cards.
