North India is experiencing cold wave conditions due to snowfall in the Himalayas and winds moving towards the plains. The cold day alert persists in the national capital Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan. Temperatures have dropped below 10 degrees in these states. In Rajasthan's hill station Mount Abu, the temperature has fallen to 0 degrees. Fatehpur in Sikar recorded a low of minus 1 degree Celsius. In the hill station of Pachmarhi in Madhya Pradesh, dew has accumulated everywhere, with the night temperature recorded at 1.8 degrees. The IMD has issued a frost alert for Himachal and Uttarakhand.
Temperature in Jammu and Kashmir has dropped to minus 10 degrees Celsius
For the past week, temperatures in Jammu and Kashmir, as well as Ladakh, have been below freezing. Meanwhile, heavy rains have resumed in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Andhra Pradesh, and Rayalaseema. A heavy rain warning has been issued for Kerala and Karnataka until December 12.
Delhi experiences a second day of declining temperatures
Delhi experienced its coldest day of the season on Wednesday, with temperatures falling to 4.9 degrees from 8 degrees on December 10. Safdarjung reported a low of 4.9 degrees Celsius, marking the season's lowest temperature so far. According to the Meteorological Department, the lowest winter temperature ever recorded in Delhi was 0.0 degrees on December 27, 1930. On Wednesday morning, the air quality was classified as poor, with the city's AQI at 207 at 8 am, down from 223 the previous day.
Temperatures in most cities of Rajasthan have fallen below 10 degrees Celsius
In Rajasthan, temperatures dropped below 10 degrees in all areas except three cities on Tuesday. The districts of Jaipur, Jodhpur, Ajmer, Kota, and Bikaner division were hit hardest by the cold wave. The temperature in Fatehpur in Sikar was minus 1 degree, making Fatehpur the coldest place in the state.
Cold spell affects 8 cities in Uttar Pradesh
A cold wave has affected eight cities in Uttar Pradesh, while dense fog has covered ten cities. Visibility is limited to 80 meters. Bulandshahr recorded the lowest temperature in the state, with a minimum of 6 degrees. The Meteorological Department has forecasted that the cold wave will persist for the next three days, leading to further melting.
