Asaduddin Owaisi Announces AIMIM Candidature for Delhi Assembly Elections
The All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul Muslimeen (AIMIM) has begun distributing tickets for the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections. AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi has declared his candidacy for one seat.
Owaisi has nominated Tahir Hussain for the Mustafabad seat in Delhi.
Tahir Hussain is accused of inciting riots in Delhi. Owaisi announced Tahir's candidacy today. 'MCD councillor Tahir Hussain has joined AIMIM,' he posted on social media platform X (formerly Twitter).
We are announcing him as a candidate from Mustafabad for the Delhi Assembly elections. His family and relatives met me today.
Recently released on bail
A few days ago, a Delhi court granted bail to Tahir Hussain, stating that his involvement in the Delhi riots was minimal.
Despite spending three years in prison, he will remain in jail due to charges in other cases.
Tahir Hussain is prohibited from departing the country
On February 25, 2020, a shop was vandalized and set ablaze by rioters. A complaint was lodged against Tahir in connection with the incident.
The court granted Tahir conditional bail, imposing a fine of Rs 25,000.
The court noted that Tahir had delivered provocative speeches and conspired to incite riots.
After serving a jail sentence of 3 years and 11 months, Tahir was granted bail but is prohibited from leaving the country.
AAP announces list of 33 candidates
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has published two lists of candidates for the Delhi elections. The first list included 11 candidates, six of whom were set to leave another party and join AAP.
The second list features 22 candidates, including two notable names. Manish Sisodia, whose seat has been changed, will now contest from Jangpura.
Meanwhile, Awadh Ojha will run from Sisodia's former seat in Patparganj.
