Cold Wave to Intensify in North India as Rain Hits Delhi-NCR
Light rain is forecast for Punjab, Haryana, and Delhi-NCR, accompanied by chilly winds that have left people feeling cold. Shimla experienced its first snowfall of the season. The Meteorological Department has also predicted light rain in Punjab, Haryana, and Delhi-NCR, along with snowfall in the mountainous regions of Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Jammu and Kashmir today.
A cold wave is expected to intensify in North India. On Sunday morning, NCR experienced light sunshine, but between 6 and 7 pm, rain occurred in Ghaziabad and Noida, causing the temperature to drop by 2-3 degrees. According to the Meteorological Department, this change is attributed to a western disturbance that developed in central Pakistan.
The Meteorological Department forecasts a maximum temperature of 23 degrees and a minimum temperature of 8 degrees for Monday.
Possibility of Mist and Fog at Night
Mist and fog are expected in certain parts of North India overnight. Snowfall took place in the mountains of Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, and Uttarakhand on Sunday. Some areas of Jammu and Kashmir received up to a foot of snow, leading to the closure of several roads.
Optimism for Betterment in Air Quality Index Rises
The air quality in Delhi-NCR has once again fallen into the very poor category, but it is anticipated to improve following the rains. As reported by the Central Pollution Control Board, Delhi's average air quality index (AQI) on Sunday was 302, categorizing it as very poor. On Saturday, the AQI was recorded at 233. The air quality in Gurugram, Ghaziabad, Noida, and Greater Noida falls into the poor category.
Minimum temperature Expected Around 6 degrees
The Meteorological Department predicts that the minimum temperature will drop starting Tuesday. Consequently, the cold will intensify, leading to a further decline in temperatures.
In the next few days, the minimum temperature is forecasted to be around six degrees Celsius, with the maximum temperature expected to decrease.
Significant snowfall blanketed the mountainous regions of Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Jammu and Kashmir. Numerous roads in Jammu and Kashmir were shut down as some areas experienced snowfall exceeding one foot.
For the first time, daytime temperatures fell below the normal range to under 10 degrees Celsius in most regions of the three states, while nighttime temperatures dropped below freezing due to snowfall.
