What is Wushu?
Wushu, commonly referred to as kung fu, is a competitive Chinese martial art that integrates aspects and techniques from both traditional and modern Chinese martial arts, including Shaolin kung fu, tai chi, and Wudangquan. The word 'Wushu' means 'martial arts' in Chinese.
Today, wushu has transformed into an international sport governed by the International Wushu Federation (IWUF), which holds the World Wushu Championships every two years. Wushu is an acknowledged event in the Asian Games, East Asian Youth Games, Southeast Asian Games, World Combat Games, and many other multi-sport competitions.
Wushu has seen a remarkable rise in popularity in India, especially in Manipur, which is renowned for nurturing skilled athletes across different sports.
