According to Moradabad Divisional Commissioner Aunjaneya Kumar Singh, 27 individuals have been detained in connection with the Sambhal violence, and seven FIRs have been filed following the disturbance and stone-pelting incident related to the Archaeological Survey of India's examination of the Mughal-era mosque in the district.
Restoring normalcy means bringing the situation in the region back to normal
Aunjaneya Kumar Singh stated on Tuesday that his main focus is to stabilize the situation in the area. He mentioned that seven FIRs have been filed, 22 individuals have been identified, and 27 have been arrested. Additionally, 74 people have been recognized, and the identification process for others is ongoing. Singh emphasized the importance of gaining the trust of the community to prevent them from being misled by outsiders. He called on all societal groups to avoid making unfounded statements. Singh noted that people are cooperating not only with the investigation but also in efforts to stabilize the situation. He added that they are gathering evidence to take further action and expressed hope that normalcy would return soon.
An SP Member of Parliament and his son are implicated in the incident
Earlier, Singh confirmed on Monday that the accused in the Sambhal incident include a Samajwadi Party MP and the son of a local MLA, adding that he assured that the situation at the violence site is peaceful now and investigations are underway. "The situation in Sambhal is peaceful. The investigation is going on. FIRs have been registered. An FIR has been registered against Sambhal MP Zia-your-Rehman Barq and the son of the local MLA for provocation. 4 people have died. The injured are being treated. Strict action will be taken and NSA will also be imposed if needed," said the Moradabad police commissioner.
Complaints have been filed against 800 people
Meanwhile, in a joint press conference, Sambhal SP Krishna Kumar Bishnoi said that a complaint has been lodged against 800 people after the violence. SP Bishnoi also said that two accused, Zia-your-Rehman Barq and Sohail Iqbal, have been arrested for inciting the mob to violence. Addressing the media, SP Bishnoi said, "Our sub-inspector Deepak Rathi, who was injured yesterday, has lodged a complaint against 800 people. Zia-your-Rehman Barq and Sohail Iqbal have been charged. He said he instigated the mob. Burke had been served notice earlier. He had made provocative speeches earlier also and was asked not to do so. A similar survey was conducted by the ASI on November 19 in which local police and members of the mosque's managing committee were present.
