Rajasthan News: After Delhi, the air quality in Rajasthan has also become hazardous. The AQI level in Jaipur, the state capital, has risen to 269. Meanwhile, areas like Ganganagar, Sikar, and Bhiwadi have recorded AQI levels above 300.

One of the main contributors to this pollution is old vehicles. Rajasthan has 1.40 crore vehicles, but only 3 lakh vehicles undergo pollution checks annually. Of these, 90 thousand vehicles have failed the test. It is concerning that no action has been taken against these 90 thousand polluting vehicles.

Districts in the Red Zone

According to the Central Pollution Control Board, the Air Quality Index (AQI) in Jaipur, Ganganagar, Sikar, and Bhiwadi (Khairthal) has surpassed 300, placing them in the Red Zone category.

Bhiwadi recorded the highest AQI at 342, followed by Jaipur at 325, Ganganagar at 305, and Sikar at 310. The air quality is also poor in Churu and Jhunjhunu, with AQI levels of 228 and 226, respectively, placing these areas in the Orange Zone category.

In January, only 210 vehicles were inspected in the state. By July, the number of vehicles undergoing a PUC check rose to 300,691, but it decreased to 176,915 in November.

Eight years ago, the Delhi government implemented a complete ban on the operation of diesel vehicles older than 10 years and petrol vehicles older than 15 years due to rising pollution levels. In contrast, Rajasthan has no such restrictions on the operation of old vehicles.
