Yograj Singh Angry: Former Indian cricketer and Yuvraj Singh’s father, Yograj Singh, makes it to the headlines for one or another reason. This time he made it to the headlines after he questioned the decision of selectors to drop Shubman Gill from the T20 World Cup 2026 squad.

Yograj Singh cited some certain level of criticism among the Indian selectors, taking a slight dig at former World Cup-winning captain Kapil Dev by stating the legendary player received too many opportunities during his time.

In a recent interview, Yograj Singh raised questions on Indian selectors by dropping Shubman Gill from the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 team. The former cricketer feels that Gill was judged after four to five innings, stating that there have been players in the past who have received many opportunities in the national team despite not performing up to the mark.

Yograj Singh said,

“Shubman Gill is a vice-captain. What is the reason behind dropping him? Just because he failed in 4-5 innings? Indian cricketers have had so many players who have barely managed to perform in 10 matches out of 100 opportunities.”

“They still played; you already know the reason why. Young Abhishek Sharma arrived a couple of years ago. If he fails four innings, will you drop him as well?”

Further, Yograj Singh took a slight dig at former Indian and 1983 World Cup-winning captain Kapil Dev, stating that on the tour of Pakistan, he failed with both bat and ball but still got a place in the team under the captaincy of Bishan Singh Bedi.

He said,

“Let me give you an example of the great Kapil Dev. When we toured Pakistan with Bishan Singh Bedi as captain, Kapil Dev continued to play matches despite failing with bat and ball. But Bishan Singh Bedi still took him on the subsequent tour of England.”

If we talk about Shubman Gill’s performance in white-ball cricket, then he failed to score runs against South Africa and Australia in T20Is.
