Washington Sundar Mistreatment: The Indian Cricket Team batting fell like cards on the third day of the Guwahati tests. The bowling struggled in the last test too, but there were many things on which attention should be put. India’s downfall against South Africa has been seen from the first test itself in both batting and bowling.

These days, the Indian cricket team seems to be experimenting more and less on playing cricket. The state of the playing eleven and batting order is such that fans are unable to understand whether the team has any strategy at all. Sometimes a No. 7 batsman is sent to No. 3, sometimes a bowler doesn’t bowl an over, and sometimes an all-rounder is included in the playing eleven but isn’t asked to bowl.

During head coach Gautam Gambhir’s tenure, this experimentation has increased so much that Team India’s balance is completely deteriorating. This is directly affecting the team’s performance—after losing to New Zealand at home after 13 years, Team India is now facing a Test series defeat at home against South Africa after 26 years.

To all these experiments, now Ravi Shastri blasted from the commentary box about all these experiments.

He said,

“Just doesn’t make sense. I don’t understand the thought process there, and when they look back at the series, some of the selections. I am still trying to fathom the thought process behind them. In Kolkata, one of the spinners (Washington Sundar) bowled just one over. Ideally, you could have gone with another specialist batsman.”

Further, he said,

“Similarly, here, Washington batted at three in the last test and could have easily batted at four here, now that you had a number three. He’s not a number eight; he’s far better than a number eight.”

Additionally, Washington Sundar was sent in at No. 3 in the Kolkata Test. He is considered India’s future all-rounder, but the No. 3 position carries significant responsibility. Despite this, he performed better than the other players there. In contrast, Sundar was sent in at No. 8 in the Guwahati Test. This means he bats at the top of the order in one test and lower down the order in the next. It’s difficult to understand whether this is a batting order or a game of musical chairs.
