Virat Kohli: Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra has opened up on his views on the squad against Australia and the upcoming ODI World Cup 2027. He feels that both star players, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, might play till the 2027 World Cup if they perform consistently in the upcoming matches. He also stated that the Indian team selection is based on merit rather than on favoritism and a quota system.
It is to be noted that both Virat and Rohit have been named in the upcoming ODI squad against Australia, but the change that has blown everyone’s mind is Rohit Sharma no longer being the captain of the Indian team. Shubman Gill has been appointed as the new captain of the Indian Cricket Team in ODIs.
“Virat Kohli & Rohit Sharma Selection Will Be Based On Merit”: Aakash Chopra

In a video shared on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra opened up on Rohit Sharma & Virat Kohli’s future in the Indian cricket team.
He said,
“The preparations are on for the second test, but the focus is more on the big news currently. The big news is that Rohit Sharma is not there as a captain, and Virat Kohli is there, but nobody knows what the road ahead will be. I read an article where it was written that their selection will be merit-based.”
Further, he said,

“I am wondering when their selection was not merit-based. Meritocracy only works. There is no favoritism or quota system here. India is doing well because whoever is good plays here. If you are good, you will play for India, and if you do well consistently, you will remain in the team.”
Virat Kohli & Rohit Sharma Retirement

It is clearly stated in some reports if peformance won’t come from the senrior players then they will no longer be seen playing in the Indian Cricket Team and the upcoming ODI series against Australia might turn out to be their last.
