The T20 World Cup 2026 will be held from February 7 to March 8, 2026, and will be co-hosted by Sri Lanka and India. To take advantage of home conditions, Sri Lanka wants its team to be strong in every department, especially batting. Sri Lanka’s batting had not lived up to expectations in recent major tournaments, so now experience is being added to the team.
Vikram Rathour is expected to join the Sri Lankan team by mid-January 2026. This will give him ample time to work with the players before the 2026 World Cup and focus on their technique and confidence.
Experience With India Will Benefit Sri Lanka

Vikram Rathour has previously served as the batting coach of the Indian team. He had worked alongside Rahul Dravid; under his coaching, India won the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 title. Therefore, his experience can be very valuable for Sri Lanka.
Rathour has good experience working with both young and experienced players. He can help batsmen play under pressure, choose the right shots, and think according to the T20 format. The Sri Lankan team has many talented batsmen who need the right guidance and confidence.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka has also announced its squad for the T20 series against Pakistan. Dasun Shanaka has once again been appointed captain. It is believed that if he performs well, he may also lead the team in the T20 World Cup 2026. The team includes players like Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis, Kusal Perera, Charith Asalanka, Wanindu Hasaranga, Maheesh Theekshana, and Matheesha Pathirana. This team is a good blend of youthful energy and experience. The series against Pakistan will be a great opportunity for these players to prove themselves.
