Tilak Varma Selection : The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a 15-member squad for the three-match ODI series against South Africa, commencing on November 30. After Shubman Gill’s and Shreyas Iyer’s injuries, KL Rahul has been appointed as the captain for the upcoming three-match ODI series.
The star wicketkeeper batter Rishabh Pant makes a comeback in the ODI squad, while Ruturaj Gaikwad finds a spot in the squad. After he was ignored in the ODI series against Australia, Ravindra Jadeja also got a spot in the squad, while Tilak Varma also made it to the squad.
Tilak Varma Selection In ODI

Former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan feels that Tilak Varma could do well if given the opportunity at number 4 in ODIs against South Africa. Currently, the southpaw bats in the middle order for India in the T20I format.
Pathan stated that Tilak Varma’s stock should have gone high since his incredible performance in the Asia Cup 2025 final against Pakistan. In the final clash, he came to bat at number 4 and smashed a match-winning 69 not out to secure a five-wicket win.
Irfan Pathan, on his YouTube channel, stated,
“Keep an eye on Tilak Varma because of the way he won matches against Pakistan in the T20 finals and handled pressure in the Asia Cup. I felt that after that, his stock should have gone up. He is a player who can do very well in the ODI format.”
“Tilak Varma Takes Time To Settle”: Irfan Pathan

Further, he said,
“Ideally, I would like to see him play higher up in T20s at number three, but if he plays at number four in ODIs, that is fine too. He takes time to settle and handles pressure well, which we have seen in recent performances. He is a left-handed batter, good at running between the wickets, and uses shots like the slog sweep effectively when under pressure.”
