The right-handed batter has been struggling in 2025 in international cricket, failing to score a single fifty, and the average is also less than 15. On the other hand, the Indian captain, known as India’s Mr. 360, smashed 717 runs for the Mumbai Indians this year but failed to score for India. The poor patch of the Indian captain is becoming a cause of concern ahead of the T20 World Cup 2026.

Suryakumar Yadav has played a total of 20 matches this year, where the Indian captain crossed the mark of 30 runs just twice this year. His best score so far this year is 47 not out against Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2025 in Dubai.

Speaking at the post-match presentation after India’s victory by 7 wickets, Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav said that he’s not out of form but out of runs.

He said,

“See, the thing is that I have been batting beautifully in the nets. I am trying everything that is in my control. When the game comes, when the runs have to come, they will definitely come. But yes, I am looking for runs.”

“Not out of form, but definitely out of runs.”

If we look at Suryakumar Yadav’s captaincy record in 2025, then it is quite impressive; under him, India hasn’t lost a single series. After losing the second T20I, the Indian team bounced back in style, winning the game by seven wickets.

The 35-year-old said,

“I think this sport teaches you a lot of things. How you come back into the series is more important. And we did the same thing; we wanted to go back to basics and do the same thing we were doing in Cuttack, and the results were on our side.”

“See, there was a lot of learning from the game we played in Chandigarh. The bowlers sat together, and we had a good team meeting as well. We came for practice sessions and attempted to replicate the same tasks we had done in Cuttack. We went back to basics. We didn’t try to do a lot of different things, but I think the basics were very important at that time.”

The fourth T20I between India and South Africa will be played on December 17 at the Ekana Stadium, Lucknow.
