Sunil Gavaskar Statement: After Virat Kohli’s continuous dismissal on ducks in two consecutive matches against Australia, social media is abuzz with talks of his retirement. When Kohli waved to the crowd after his dismissal in Adelaide, fans thought it might be his last time in the Indian jersey. But former legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar believes Kohli isn’t thinking like that yet. According to him, this is just a short break, not the end of his career.
In a recent conversation, Sunil Gavaskar recalled Virat Kohli’s impressive stats so far in ODI cricket. He said that a player like Virat Kohli can’t be judged by just a few failures.
“Virat Kohli Still Has A Lot Of Cricket…”: Sunil Gavaskar Statement

Sunil Gavaskar said,
“That player has scored over 14,000 runs and has 52 ODI centuries and nearly 32 Test centuries to his name. It’s no big deal for a player with so many runs to be out for zero twice. Cricket has its ups and downs, but Virat still has a lot of cricket left in him. Maybe he’ll play a big innings in Sydney.”
Gavaskar further said that Adelaide has always been Kohli’s favorite ground, whether in Tests or ODIs. He has played many memorable innings there, so people were expecting something special this time too. But that didn’t happen, and that’s what life teaches us—that every time, things don’t go according to our will.
What Was The Reason Virat Kohli Waved At The Crowd?

Gavaskar praised the appreciation Kohli received in the Adelaide even after he got dismissed on a duck.
He said,
“When Kohli came out to bat, the entire stadium erupted in applause. It was great to see that the Australian fans respect him as well. Yes, there were some Indian fans, but the majority of the crowd was Australian. This was recognition of his contribution. Kohli was simply accepting the honor; there was no hint of retirement in it.”
“Virat Kohli Won’t Retire After Being Dismissed For Two Ducks”: Sunil Gavaskar

He explained that where Kohli gestured towards the crowd is in the area of the ground where former players and officials sit. Perhaps Kohli was simply thanking them.
Gavaskar said,
“Virat Kohli is not the kind of player who would think of retiring after being dismissed for two ducks. He will always want to end his career on a high. Next up is the Sydney match, then the series against South Africa at home. There is still a lot of ODI cricket left. I believe the 2027 World Cup will be special for both Kohli and Rohit.”
Gavaskar concluded by saying that “People don’t need to overthink it. Kohli simply thanked the crowd, just like players do after a big score, by raising their bats. This time, he thanked them with his gloves; there was no hidden message.”
