Sunil Gavaskar On The 2025 WC Win

To this win, former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar believes that this will be a strong message that the other team’s era of domination has come to an end. Apart from this, Gavaskar had a different viewpoint on the women’s team, which is being compared with the men’s World Cup team of 1983.
Sunil Gavaskar said,
“There were some who tried to compare this win with the men’s team winning the World Cup in 1983. The men had never progressed beyond the group stage in earlier editions, and so everything from the knockout stage onward was new to them, while the women already had a better record, having been in two finals before this magnificent triumph.”
“Just as the 83 win galvanized Indian cricket and gave it a voice that was heard around the world, this victory will make the countries that started women’s cricket long before India did realize that their era of domination has been shaken.”
“83-win Encouraged Parents Of Aspiring Cricketers”: Sunil Gavaskar

Further, he said,
“The 83-win also encouraged parents of aspiring cricketers to let their children take up the game. The IPL took it to another level, of course, and that’s why today’s Indian men’s team includes players not just from the metros but from across the country.”
In the final game against South Africa, the Women in Blue posted a total of 298/7 on the scoreboard, to which credit goes to Shafali Varma’s knock of 87 runs and Deepti Sharma’s fiery knock. In reply to that, the South Africa skipper Laura Wolvaardt smashed a century but didn’t get the support from the other end against India.

After the historic win of the Indian women against South Africa, former cricketers Jhulan Goswami and Mithali Raj joined the victory celebration and lifted the trophy with tears in their eyes.
