Abhishek Sharma took just 22 balls to complete his sixth half-century in the T20I format. After Abhishek’s fiery start for the Indian team, the legendary Indian batter highlighted the difference between the batting approach of modern-day players and his generation.

Gavaskar said,

“He takes the same amount of balls to hit a half century as what I used to take to get off the mark. There is a huge difference.’

Talking about his knock, Abhishek stated that his high-stake approach is deliberate intent rather than playing recklessly.

He said,

“We had a plan from day one and are just following it. I’ve determined that whether you aim to hit every ball or strike at 200, your intent must be clear. All teams have a plan for me. It’s about my preparation. I’m going to back my instinct. I don’t feel my role is high-risk; I wouldn’t say this is my comfort zone.”

“But I’ve been practicing to go big in the first six. I never do range-hitting. I’m more of a timing batter; I need to watch the ball and get used to the conditions. For it, I plan in my next session. I feel, if you watch your batting videos, you get an idea of where the bowler bowls to you.”

After India lost its two wickets early in the form of Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan, Abhishek Sharma turned out to be the savior for the team. Skipper Suryakumar Yadav added 99 runs for the third wicket with Abhishek making 22 balls off 32 runs. However, he failed to complete his fifty.

The second T20I between India and New Zealand will be played on January 23 in Raipur.
