Sunil Gavaskar Angry: After India failed to perform against South Africa in the two-match test series, getting two times whitewashed at home in the last 12 months, questions are being raised about Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir. With the team being in transition and losing its charm in Test cricket, Gambhir’s position has come in danger.
Frustrations with Gautam Gambhir are on top of the world after India’s 2-0 loss to South Africa, and they consider him as part of a larger problem. People believe that India lacks match winners in the team as of current.
“Gautam Gambhir Can Just Prepare A Team”: Sunil Gavaskar Angry

Former legendary Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar came out in support of Gambhir after all this criticism, stating that people questioned him too quickly but lacked in giving him credit. He stated that Gambhir was the only one being looked at at the time when the team didn’t perform well.
He said,
“He’s a coach. The coach can prepare a team. But it’s out there in the middle that the players have to deliver. Now, to those who are asking for him to be held accountable, my counter-question is, “What did you do when India won the Asia Cup under him?”
“Did you say then—you’re asking for a sacking now—did you say then that he should be given an extended contract, a contract for life for one-day cricket and for T20 cricket? You didn’t say that. It’s only when a team doesn’t do well that you look at the coach.”
“Why People Blaming Gautam Gambhir For Loss?”: Sunil Gavaskar

As of now no questions have been raised on Gautam Gambhir’s coaching in white-ball cricket. With calls being made for specialist coaches for different formats, Gambhir is under pressure—but Gavaskar believes that it’s not necessary, giving the example of how other countries have all-format coaches.
He said,
“Not necessarily. You have coaches; for example, Brendan McCullum is a coach for all three formats for England.”
“If you’re not prepared to give him credit for the Champions Trophy and the Asia Cup win, then please tell me why you want to blame him for the team out there on that 22-yard not doing well. Why are you blaming him?”

“A lot of countries have a coach who is there for all formats. But we tend to only look and point a finger at somebody when the team has lost. You’re not prepared to give him credit,” Gavaskar continued to say of Gambhir.
“If you’re not prepared to give him credit for the Champions Trophy and the Asia Cup win, then please tell me why you want to blame him for the team out there on that 22-yard not doing well. Why are you blaming him?” demanded the Indian legend.
However, a Champions team like India winning will come with less praise, and losing will get you more attention, and the same is happening with Gautam Gambhir at the moment.
