Sourav Ganguly On 1st Test: The Indian team lost the first Test by a close margin of 30 runs to South Africa at the Eden Gardens. This is India’s fourth defeat in the last six home Test matches, raising serious questions about head coach Gautam Gambhir’s planning. The match, played at the Eden Gardens, ended in just three days. India had prepared a spin-friendly pitch, but the Indian batsmen themselves fell into this trap. Meanwhile, former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly has advised Gautam Gambhir to change his plans.
Sourav Ganguly On 1st Test

CAB President and former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly, after Team India’s crushing defeat, said that the Eden Gardens pitch was exactly what Team India had asked for. However, Ganguly advised the team management to stop tampering with pitches to achieve victory. He said the pitch should be such that it supports both batting and bowling so that the match progresses smoothly.
Sourav Ganguly On Mohammed Shami Return

Ganguly directly advised Gautam Gambhir to rely on the team’s bowling strength instead of changing the pitch. He said that Bumrah and Siraj are performing well, but Shami should also be brought back into the team, as he is a match-winning bowler. Mohammed Shami is currently playing in the Ranji Trophy and is performing well.
He took 7 wickets in both innings in the season’s first match against Uttarakhand. His bowling was also incredible in the second match against Gujarat, where he took 3 wickets in the first innings and 5 in the second.

On the other hand, Gambhir defended the pitch, saying that the Indian players got the pitch they wanted, but the team’s batting performance was poor, leading to the defeat. It’s worth noting that Team India also suffered the consequences of the spin track against New Zealand in 2024.
