Sitanshu Kotak Statement: After the 1st ODI in Ranchi, Indian batting coach Sitanshu Kotak openly praised Virat Kohli’s brilliant innings against South Africa. He said that with the form and fitness Virat is showing, there is no need to question his future. According to Kotak, Virat once again showed glimpses of his old style of sharp movement, powerful shots from outside the crease, and the passion behind every run that makes him unique.

Kotak in the press conference said that Virat Kohli’s innings was not only impressive but also a boost to the team. He stated that his back appeared fine while batting, and the physio’s examination of the players was a routine procedure. He clearly stated that Virat’s fitness and performance are so strong that there should be no doubt about his remaining a key part of the team until the 2027 World Cup.

Kotak also added that both Rohit Sharma and Virat are the same as before in the nets. The team atmosphere is always positive with the presence of these two senior players, as they constantly guide the young players.

Kotak, speaking about the match conditions, admitted that the dew in the second innings made batting easier. He said that when the ball is wet with dew, it becomes difficult for the bowler to grip it, and the ball tends to slide onto the wicket. In such circumstances, Harshit Rana’s crucial wickets in the early overs turned the match in India’s favour.

South Africa had invited India to bat first. Yashasvi Jaiswal was dismissed after a quick start, but a 136-run partnership between Rohit and Virat put the team in a strong position. However, India faced some difficulties in the middle when Rohit, Ruturaj, and Sundar departed early. KL Rahul and Virat Kohli then added a crucial 76 runs, helping the team regain momentum. At the end of the innings, KL Rahul and Jadeja increased the run rate to 349.

South Africa suffered a major setback while chasing 350. Indian pacers took three wickets, reducing SA to just 11 runs. Tony de Zorzi and Breetzke then tried to revive the innings. Dewald Breetz also played a quick innings, but five SA players were back in the pavilion by just 130 runs.

Despite this, the match was not a one-sided affair. Breetzke and Marco Jansen added nearly 100 runs, keeping the match exciting. Both batsmen were putting pressure on India by scoring quickly. But then Kuldeep Yadav provided India with a major reprieve by dismissing both set batsmen. Even then, Bosch continued to fight with the lower order and dragged the match to the final overs. However, SA ultimately fell short by 17 runs.

Harshit Rana proved he could be a potential threat for India in the future by taking three wickets.

With this win, India took a 1-0 lead in the series, and Virat Kohli was named Player of the Match.
