Shubman Gill Snub: The Indian ODI captain Shubman Gill for the first time broke silence on his snub in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2026. He had been appointed as the vice captain of the Indian team in the T20Is for the Asia Cup 2025, but after he got dropped from the squad for the World Cup, the cricketing world got shocked.

Ahead of the first ODI against New Zealand, Shubman Gill, speaking in the press conference, talked about his omission from the team.
He said,
“Firstly, it is my belief that in my life, I am where I am supposed to be. Whatever is written in my destiny, I will have it. As a player, I want to win games for my team, but having said that, I respect the selectors’ decision. I wish the T20 team the very best. I hope that they win the World Cup.”
WAS SHUBMAN GILL FORCED INTO THE T20 TEAM?
In the Asia Cup 2025, it felt like Shubman Gill was forced into the T20I team. Gill replaced Sanju Samson in the team, who had smashed three T20I hundreds in the last 12 months. He replaced Sanju Samson at the top and opened the innings with Abhishek Sharma.
However, this move backfired on the Indian team, after which the team lost its rhythm. Finally a big move was taken by the selectors, where they had no option other than dropping Shubman from the team.
