Shubman Gill Ruled Out: The Indian Test captain Shubman Gill has been ruled out of the second test against South Africa in Guwahati, which will commence on November 22. In Shubman Gill’s absence Rishabh Pant will lead the Indian team, and there are more likely chances that Sai Sudharsan will be replacing him in the playing XI.
Why was Shubman Gill Ruled Out From the 2nd Test?

In the first innings of the first test, Shubman Gill went through a neck injury while batting in Kolkata. He did not field in second innings nor comethe second inning to bat. In his absence India failed to chase the target of 124 runs at Eden Gardens. Before the second test of the two-match series, Gill was keen to play and even travelled to Guwahati but unfortunately will not feature.
The right-handed batter was immediately taken to the hospital after the second day game and was discharged the following day. A BCCI press release on Wednesday stated that the 26-year-old will travel with the squad to Guwahati and will be monitored by BCCI’s medical team.

The release stated,
“Team India captain Shubman Gill suffered a neck injury on Day 2 of the Kolkata Test against South Africa and was taken to the hospital for examination after the end of the day’s play. He was kept under observation and discharged the next day. Shubman has been responding well to the medical treatment provided and will travel to Guwahati with the team on November 19, 2025.”
Currently, the Indian cricket team is in a do-or-die situation where they have to win the second test. The first test was won by South Africa by 30 runs.
Now, it will be interesting to see what the outcome of the second test will be.
