Shubman Gill on the loss: In the second ODI against New Zealand played at the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot on Wednesday, January 14, the Indian team did not look at its best. The mistakes cost them the second ODI, which they lost by seven wickets.
Shubman Gill On The Loss

After the loss, Indian captain Shubman Gill himself admitted that the fielding expectations from the team were not up to the mark in the series so far. He stated that the team that did not utilize the chances was the reason for losing the match to New Zealand. However, Gill also stated that the team is trying to improve each and everything in the fielding department.
Shubman Gill said,

“Even in the last match, we let down a couple of chances. It’s one thing that we are always doing, especially with this team. We are always trying to get better at fielding. It’s one aspect that we’re always trying to get better at. And yes, if you don’t take your chances in this format, it always makes you lose.”
IND vs NZ 2nd ODI

India posted a score of 248/7 in the second ODI as Shubman (56) and KL Rahul (112*) turned out to be knocks for India’s savior. In reply to that, the Kiwi openers got out cheaply by the Indian bowlers. Still, Will Young and Daryl Mitchell put up a strong partnership of 162 runs off 152 balls and won the match for his team.
Ahead of the T20 World Cup 2026, which is all set to commence on February 7, the Indian team needs to work on their shortcomings. As of now the three-match ODI series is tied at 1-1. The third and final ODI will now be played at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore on January 18, Sunday.
