Shreyas Iyer Injury Update: Shubman Gill & Co. suffered a 2-1 defeat in the recently concluded three-match ODI series against Australia. Thanks to the brilliant performances of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in the final match, the Indian team managed to avoid a clean sweep. However, the recent update from the Indian camp is a bit stressful for the team and fans, as the Indian ODI team vice-captain Shreyas Iyer has been admitted to a hospital in Sydney, where he is under close observation in the ICU.

The Indian ODI vice-captain was injured while fielding during the third ODI against Australia in Sydney. The incident occurred in the 34th over when Alex Carey’s catch off Harshit Rana’s bowling went in the air. Iyer, standing at backward point, dived to take the catch, but in the process, he injured his ribs.

But now, reports indicate that Shreyas is suffering from internal bleeding. He has been admitted to the ICU for the past few days and will be monitored for two to seven days, depending on his recovery, as there is a risk of infection due to bleeding.

Recognizing Iyer’s deteriorating condition upon returning to the dressing room, the BCCI medical team acted swiftly. The team doctor and physio took no chances and immediately took Shreyas to the hospital. While his condition is now stable, it could have been fatal.

BCCI Release On Shreyas Iyer Injury

The recent update on Shreyas Iyer’s injury was revealed by BCCI, where a press release was released by them that stated,

“Shreyas Iyer sustained an impact injury to his left lower rib cage region while fielding during the third ODI against Australia in Sydney on 25th October 2025. He was taken to the hospital for further evaluation.”

“Scans have revealed a laceration injury to the spleen. He is under treatment, medically stable, and recovering well. The BCCI medical team, in consultation with specialists in Sydney and India, is closely monitoring his injury status. The Indian team doctor will remain in Sydney with Shreyas to evaluate his day-to-day progress.”

Will Shreyas Iyer Be Able To Make It Against South Africa?

After returning to India, Shreyas Iyer will undergo further testing at the COE (Center of Excellence) in Bengaluru. According to reports, he will be out of action for at least three weeks. Consequently, his participation in the South Africa ODI series, starting November 30, is becoming increasingly doubtful. The team management is currently awaiting his recovery report.
