Shreyas Iyer Comeback Delay: The Indian vice-captain Shreyas Iyer is likely to miss the upcoming three-match ODI series against New Zealand. As per the latest reports, his body isn’t ready, and he hasn’t got the clearance from BCCI.
Shreyas Iyer Comeback Delay

However, previous reports stated that before joining the Indian team for the upcoming ODI series against New Zealand, Iyer would have played two matches for Mumbai in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025, but as of now it seems a bit impossible.
A BCCI official report stated,
“There is no problem with his batting, but he lost around six kgs after the injury in Australia. While he has regained some weight, there has been a drop in his muscle mass, which has further affected his strength levels. The medical team will not be taking any chances because he is a very important player in the ODI setup, and his complete recovery is of utmost importance right now. The selectors and management will be informed about his present situation before they meet to pick a team for the New Zealand ODIs.”
Shreyas Iyer Needs More Time For Recovery
Further, an MCA official tracking the development of Iyer stated,

“There were a lot of positive developments as he batted in Mumbai, went to CoE, and was pushing himself to feature in the New Zealand ODIs. There were indications of him playing the Vijay Hazare Trophy matches on January 3 and 6, too, but we have now been told that he needs more time and will only be available from the knockout stages of the tournament.”
Iyer looks comfortable in the nets but has lost weight and dipped in muscle mass, which can affect the repeated sprinting, sliding, and throwing intensity that international cricket actually demands. That is the reason Iyer hasn’t got the clearance from the BCCI.

There were also reports that Iyer could make a comeback for Mumbai in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025 on January 3 and January 6 to rebuild the rhythm before the ODI series starting on January 11.
However, at the moment BCCI is not in any mood to take any risk, as Iyer is the vice captain of the Indian team and is a crucial part of the team.
