Sanju Samson Comeback: Team India will be looking to defend its title in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2026, which is set to commence on February 7th and will be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka. Under the leadership of Gautam Gambhir and captain Suryakumar Yadav, the Indian team looks in excellent form and is considered a strong contender for the trophy. However, amidst this strong picture, there is a slight concern surrounding one name—opener Sanju Samson.
Sanju Samson Comeback

Team India has already won the T20I series against New Zealand, winning the first three matches. Abhishek Sharma is consistently scoring runs, captain Suryakumar Yadav has returned to his old form, and Ishan Kishan, making a comeback after two years, has also made an impact with the bat. But amidst all this, Sanju Samson’s bat has remained silent. He has managed to score only 16 runs in the first three matches, which has sparked a debate about his place in the team.
After that, questions are being raised about whether the team management should replace Sanju with Ishan Kishan as the opener or not. However, Team India does not seem to be in the mood for any major changes right before the World Cup. The management is still showing faith in Sanju Samson and believes that just one good innings is enough to change his fortunes.
Management Shows Support On Sanju Samson

Before the fourth T20I match, bowling coach Morne Morkel also openly supported Sanju. He said that Sanju is just one inning away from regaining his confidence. According to the coach, it is important for the players to peak at the right time before the World Cup, and Sanju is playing good shots in training.

In an effort to turn this faith into reality, Sanju himself is leaving no stone unturned. On Tuesday, he was seen at Team India’s optional practice session, where players’ presence is usually not mandatory. According to reports, Sanju batted extensively in the nets for about 30 minutes, facing bowlers like Axar Patel and Varun Chakravarthy.
Initially, he faced some difficulties, but soon Sanju was seen hitting big shots in his familiar style. The question now is whether this “30 minutes of practice” will be enough to change his fortunes. Well, the answer might be revealed today, January 28th, in the fourth T20 match in Visakhapatnam—where a single innings could completely change Sanju Samson’s story.
