Sanju Samson Backing : Indian T20I opener Sanju Samson is struggling a lot in scoring runs in recent times. In the ongoing five-match T20I series against New Zealand, he failed to impress with his performance. In 2025, he played a total of 15 T20Is, scored just 22 runs at an average of 20.18. In 2026 he has played a total of four T20Is scoring just 40 runs in all total.

During this lean phase, Samson received support from the former Indian all-rounder Suresh Raina. He feels that Samson should be getting the same way of backing just as Suryakumar Yadav got when he failed to score runs.

Suresh Raina said,

“He hasn’t scored runs in almost one year. But still, the captain and coach were backing him. I think it’s the same story with Sanju. If he gets a chance, he’ll definitely do well.”

Raina stated that Samson’s experience and performances, especially against South Africa, will help a lot with the Indian team. He stated that the top four will play a key role during the T20 World Cup 2026. Raina also praised Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan for their incredible knocks.

He said,

“The way Ishan and Abhishek are playing, they show intent from the first ball.”

The Men in Blue are placed in Group A with the USA, the Netherlands, Namibia, and Pakistan. Apart from all matches, India will be playing against Pakistan out of India.
