Rohit-Virat In Doubt: After the conclusion of the three-match India-South Africa ODI series, a crucial meeting will be held between selectors and team management to discuss Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s future, keeping the 2027 ODI World Cup in mind. The report also stated that top BCCI officials, coach Gautam Gambhir, and chief selector Ajit Agarkar are likely to meet in Ahmedabad after the third India vs. South Africa ODI in Visakhapatnam next week.
Rohit-Virat In Doubt : BCCI To Hold Meeting For Star Duo Future
The star duo, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, are currently active in playing ODI; they already announced their retirement from the T20I and Test formats. Now, a meeting will be held on taking some crucial steps on their future regarding the ODI World Cup 2027.
A BCCI source stated,
“It is very important that players of Rohit and Kohli’s stature are given clarity about what is expected of them and how the current management views their roles. They can’t just be playing with uncertainty.”
It also stated that the BCCI has asked Rohit Sharma to just focus on his fitness and performance while avoiding any outside noise.
“One Can’t Afford That In Every Series”
Both star duo Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli played in the India vs. Australia ODI series in October. Rohit was the highest run scorer and won the Player of the Series for 202 runs, whereas Kohli scored 74 runs in the third ODI after getting out on a duck in the first two matches.
A source also stated,
“They did score runs in the third ODI in Australia. But the series was already lost, and the match was set up by the bowlers in the first innings. They looked rusty in the first two matches. One can’t afford that in every series.”

There are some expectations from both of the duo; Rohit is expected to continue his aggressive approach, which he did during the Champions Trophy 2025.
It was stated,
“It is expected that he continues to lead by example as a fearless batter at the top of the order. The conditions were tough in Australia, but it did look like he was avoiding taking risks. Both are expected to lead the batting to make it easier for the rest of the younger batters around them.”
The duo is also asked to take part in the Vijay Hazare Trophy next month. After the three-match ODI series against South Africa, India will be facing New Zealand in January for another ODI series. After that, India’s next ODI will be scheduled against England in July.
