Rohit Sharma Future: Is the end near? It’s been a while since these reports have been circulating over social media. The recent update has added more fuel to the rumors of Rohit Sharma’s retirement from ODI soon after he wasremoved from the spot of captaincy. In place of Rohit, Shubman Gill has been appointed the new captain of the ODI team.
With every statement of Agarkar in the press conference, it was loud and clear that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s chance of playing in the ODI World Cup 2027 is quite low. The major reason for them not playing for a long time is their age factor. Rohit will be turning 40, and Kohli will be close to turning 39 years old.
“Rohit Sharma Only Play ODIs Now…”: Sunil Gavaskar

With being retired from Tests and T20Is, the duo is all set to feature in international cricket after the Champions Trophy 2025. To this the former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar stated that the selection committee took the right call by appointing Shubman Gill as the captain and is quite confident that Rohit Sharma himself would agree with that decision.
He said,
“We don’t know whether Rohit Sharma will be ready for the 2027 World Cup. He only plays ODIs now, and if we see the international calendar, the Indian team isn’t playing too many ODIs. Bilateral tours mostly include tests and T20Is. If he only plays 5-7 ODIs in a year, he won’t get that kind of practice, which you need for a big tournament like a World Cup. If his place in the team isn’t certain, the decision to prepare Shubman Gill was taken.”
Further, he said,
“Team comes from. Personally, he has done a lot—won us the Champions Trophy and the T20 World Cup before that. There’s no two ways about his captaincy. But even he (Rohit Sharma) agrees with this decision because if you need to think two years ahead, then a young captain needs to be prepared. And this is the thought process the selection committee went ahead with.”
Virat Kohli & Rohit Sharma Future Uncertain

The Indian star duo Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will be featured in the ODIs against Australia starting from October 19, and these performances will be playing a crucial role in their fate for the upcoming ODI World Cup 2027.
Further, talking about Rohit & Virat, Sunil Gavaskar said,
“Of course. If you are non-committal, if you can’t say whether you’ll be ready for the next two years, be ready (for more bad news). Even they are aware that if they only have to play ODI, there are rarely any. For that, they need to practice more and play something like the Vijay Hazare Trophy. This is possibly why they have taken that stance.”
