Rohit Sharma Emotional: The Indian legends Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are almost at the verge of their last World Cup journey in 2027. After winning the T20 World Cup 2024, now the duo will most probably be seen lifting that ODI World Cup Trophy together. Before that also, the duo have featured in many ICC tournaments together, but the trophy the duo haven’t lifted together is the ODI World Cup Trophy.

After the ODI World Cup 2023 heartbreak at home, mission ODI World Cup 2027 gets even stronger. If we look at the recent performances of the duo against South Africa, then both performed really well. Virat Kohli smashed 302 runs from three matches; on the other hand, Rohit smashed a fifty and a century, followed by another fifty against South Africa.
The latest ICC Rankings also reveal that the duo is on fire and is all fit and set to play the ODI World Cup 2027.
In the last few years the duo went through many things. From debuting as youngsters to becoming the legends of the game, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have seen many ups and downs. India went back home without an ICC trophy for 10 years despite coming so close many times. But the drought finally ended on June 29, when India lifted the T20 World Cup 2024 trophy in the duo’s final T20I match.

After the match it was seen that Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma shared an emotional hug, which shows their love and dedication and hard work towards the game they have put in. Winning the silverware meant a lot to both of them. In recent times, both have retired from Tests and T20Is, with ODIs being the only format they continue to play, besides the IPL. But even then, Rohit hasn’t forgotten that moment with Kohli after the match in Barbados.
Rohit Sharma, speaking about the hug with Virat Kohli, said,
“There was so much riding on both of us to take the team through. Not that the other guys weren’t keen or hungry enough. But being—I don’t like to say that word—the two most senior in that squad, we had played a lot of cricket together, except IPL. When he came into the team, I was only a year into my career. So, literally, we did everything together. And we have seen a lot of setbacks as well, with the World Cups.”
Further, he said,
“Both of us knew that it was our last World Cup. Last T20 World Cup. So that made it even more special.”
