Rohit Sharma: Former Indian cricketer and selector Saba Karim slams BCCI for their step of removing Rohit Sharma as ODI captain just after he won them the Champions Trophy 2025 and appointing Shubman Gill as the new skipper. Karim also questioned the selection committee’s long-term plans for the upcoming 2027 ODI World Cup.
In a recent video, Karim raised questions that deeply connect with every fan. It is to be noted that Saba Karim has served administrative posts previously. He was India’s national selector and after that played the role of BCCI’s General Manager of Cricket Operations.
“Why Are You Keeping Rohit Sharma In The Team?”: Saba Karim

Karim didn’t hesitate in questioning BCCI’s step of removing Rohit Sharma as ODI skipper. He said,
“Team mein aap kyon rakh rahe hain? Agar woh captain nahin hain, to phir ek baat saaf hai na ki aap unka future dekh nahi rahe ki wo 2027 ke World Cup mein rahenge, to phir aap aise khiladi ko team mein nahin rakhiye jo aapko lagta hain ki 2027 mein aapke hisab se maujood nahin rahenge. (Why are you keeping him on the team? If he is not captaining, then it is clear that you don’t see his future. You don’t feel that he will be a part of the 2027 World Cup. So, don’t keep a player whom you don’t feel would be a part of the 2027 World Cup).”
Further, he stated that Rohit has built the team and won major tournaments in India.
“Unhone team ko build kiya hai; unhone apko Champions Trophy aur T20 jitaya hai (He built the team and won you the Champions Trophy and the T20 World Cup).”
The decision to change India’s ODI captain came after the Chairperson of the Indian Selection Committee, Ajit Agarkar, believed that there was a need to bring the new captain, Shubman Gill, before the 2027 ODI World Cup. He also stated that it would be difficult to manage three different captains in every format.
Rohit Sharma: Age Major Concern

According to various reports, it is being stated that Rohit Sharma would be turning 40 by the time of the ODI World Cup 2027, and this is the key reason he has been removed from captaincy. At the moment it is not sure whether the Indian star duo Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will be playing till the 2027 World Cup or not. It is being stated that the duo’s performance will be playing the key role in their game till the ODI World Cup.
