Rift in RO-KO Gautam Gambhir: KL Rahul’s led team has begun their three-match ODI series with a win against South Africa by 17 runs, taking a lead of 1-0 in the series. This was a much-needed win after getting whitewashed at home by a 2-0 win in test cricket and a 1-2 defeat against Australia. But at the same time, the two greats who increased the enjoyment and craze of this series were Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.

It was seen in other formats that the cricket is not the same anymore in the absence of both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. The team might have drawn the series in England and lifted the Asia Cup 2025 Trophy, but the shine of the Indian team has reduced. Hence, when both legends returned to ODI cricket, the game regained its popularity. From the last two ODIs, it was seen that both players look in great form; Virat has scored unbeaten 74 and 135 runs, and Rohit has scores of 121 not out and 57 runs. After seeing such knocks from both these players, it feels like the old times have come.
Meanwhile, after all these things, it seems like the Indian dressing room atmosphere has become a topic of discussion. According to the latest report, it has been learnt that things look great in India’s T20I and Test setup, but something is not good in the ODI setup. As per the reports, head coach Gautam Gambhir no longer shares the same bond with the legendary players Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma; the equations seem a bit cold.
A BCCI source stated,
“The relations between Gautam Gambhir and senior players Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma aren’t as good as they should be, and there could be a meeting regarding the future of the two players. This could take place either in Raipur or Visakhapatnam – venues for the second and third ODIs.”

It was also learnt that the relations are so tense between Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and the decision-makers of the team that during the ODI series against Australia, Rohit and the BCCI chairman of selectors, Ajit Agarkar, were not on good terms. It was the series where the fans of both players were waiting for their comeback in international cricket since March. The same goes for Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir, who were seen having limited conversations during the 1st ODI between India and South Africa.
The report also added,
“During the Australia series, Rohit and Agarkar did not interact at all. Between then and now, even Kohli and Gambhir haven’t spoken much to each other. Besides, the manner in which fans of Kohli and Rohit are attacking Gambhir on social media has made the BCCI upset.”
The relationship between Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir is not hidden from anyone; both shared a bittersweet relationship. The duo had played a lot of cricket with each other for India and Delhi. Since Gautam Gambhir was appointed as the head coach, it seems like the relationship between both is not the same anymore.
