RO-KO Future In ODI WC 2027: Despite having incredible performances in the recently concluded ODI series against Australia and South Africa, the future of Indian legends is still in doubt. After listening to the multiple press conferences of Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir, one thing is pretty clear: the Indian star duo Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are not the guaranteed picks for the ODI World Cup 2027.

There are still 22 months left for the ODI World Cup 2027, and anything can happen between this time. At that time, both Kohli and Rohit will have turned 39 and 40 by then and might face various obstacles such as form, fitness and, most importantly, the hunger to play. There’s no doubt in saying that currently the duo’s main focus is to play till the ODI World Cup 2027. According to Indian head coach Gambhir, he likes to live in the present, so there’s no clear indication on the star duo’s future.

“Planning Has To Revolve Around Rohit Sharma & Virat Kohli”: Devang Gandhi

Former Indian selector Devang Gandhi feels that Kohli and Rohit should be the main part of the team in the ODI World Cup 2027. The urge to win the upcoming ODI World Cup will be more than before – India haven’t won it since 2011 – and after the 2023 heartbreak, the hunger to win the 2027 World Cup will be greater.

Devang Gandhi said,

“As long as Kohli and Rohit are around, the planning has to revolve around them. The management must stick to a pool of more than 20 players now. Leading up to the 2019 World Cup, no one was given enough chances to settle down at No. 4. When the top order imploded in the semifinal, no one was ready. The same happened in the 2023 World Cup, when the team management was forced to play Suryakumar Yadav, who didn’t have a good ODI record.”

Further, Gandhi stated that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, and to some extent KL Rahul and Shubman Gill, are the Indian batters who have been able to fix their place in the Playing XI. Recently, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ruturaj Gaikwad smashed their maiden ODI centuries last week but are still a bit away from cementing their place in the Playing XI for the ODI World Cup 2027.

He said,

“The management must stick to a pool of not more than 20 players now.
